my hand bound art journal in progress

These are PAGES IN PROGRESS (aka not finished LOL) but I wanted to show you a little bit of my hand bound mixed media art journal that I made, and am extremely happy with, thanks to Effy the Wild at Wild Art Studios.

I bought a half yard of muslin, which can be used to make several journals of different sizes and applied white Gesso to both sides of the piece that I cut for my journal.  After that dried, I painted it with acrylic paint in a beige color and added embellishments.  I figured that I could add things as I go along.

I then made my folios and bound my journal according to the instructions in the video.  I used Strathmore vellum surface mixed media Best series 400 paper (which I am now addicted to) and thick scrapbooking thread that I have had for literally 10 years from Making Memories.

It was a fun process and I am enjoying my new mixed media art journal.  I will probably make several more because they are fun and I will always have extras made up for online courses that I take.

One of the best features of this style of binding is that you can always add more folios to the end.... EEKKKKKK!  Love it!  I hate running out of room.  And the pages are expandable.  You can leave plenty of room between the folios for expansion- if you are like me and like to add layers and layers on your pages you need this man!  Anyway, thanks for looking :-)  MessyJessy

bookbinding course/workshop online

Some of my lovely friends and family members whom have seen my lovely hand bound art journal book have asked where I learned to do that and I told them from an online workshop.  I am including the link here  I love Effy and she does an AWESOME job explaining how to do this.

For my book, I used mixed media paper from Strathmore, vellum surface 400 series best and it doesn't buckle like watercolor paper and it takes anything that I throw at it :-)  Love it!!!

Anyway, I will post some pictures of my journal in a bit.  Thanks for looking, MessyJessy

Birthday Card #1

I signed up for the Journey Into Cardmaking class at Two Peas in a Bucket (it was very inexpensive and you get lots of info and downloads).  I also created my very first card (in a looooooong time) for a challenge at where they have weekly/monthly card making challenges and prizes :-) .  Check it out...... they are new and just started!  Great ideas and motivation for cardmaking :-)  I used my two kits that I received a couple of days ago from Studio Calico BLOCK PARTY monthly scrapbooking kit and Project Life monthly scrapbooking kit and Scrapbooking From the Inside Out HARMONY monthly club kit to create this card.

ok, computer is having problems so I will post it to Instagram and then send the link here :-)

LB2013 WarmUp Fairy Art Mother and Journey

My 2013 projects for the year

I am working on two year long projects for 2013....

First, I am taking a class at called LifeBook 2013.....  It is an art class that has to do with healing, learning new art techniques, and life in general.  It is an EXCELLENT class so far!

Second, I am taking Ali Edward's class at called "One Little Word" word this year is JOY.  I intend to bring more JOY into my life this year.

This is my first year doing either of these classes and I think it will be so much fun!  Love the teachers so far and I will be posting pics of my work as soon as I can.

I also have been subscribed to Studio Calico's scrapbook kit club for the past two months and love it!  I am also signed up for their Project Life kit club with Becky Higgins.  Can't wait to get my first kits of the year!

I have been sooooooo busy with the holidays and trying to decide which road 2013 will take me down that I haven't had time to post more pics of my artwork from Christmas break 2012 but I will soon!
