Permission to Play with Carolyn Dube

If you like FREE then you will love Carolyn Dube's Permission to Play class!  Plus, It's FUN!!!
I used a cardboard box to make this cute little art journal.  It's not completely done, but it is ready for action.  Whenever I have extra paint, I can use it on my pages.  Whenever I want to attach something like you would in a smashbook, it's ready.  I can even gesso some pages to journal on :-)

I liked it so much, I made several to demonstrate for the kids who come to Terra Studios
how to make a cute little art journal for next to nothing.

Inspiration Wednesday 2016 Weeks 1-4

Still playing catch-up here after the move......

On to Inspiration Wednesdays with Donna Downey :-)

Who doesn't love Donna Downey?  She is so funny and full of life!  I decided this year to join in on keeping an Inspiration Wednesday Journal.  If you would like to join in, here is the link....

I had already made several signatures for whatever journal needed them so I just used them for my IW2016 journal.  I already had a cover made up on canvas so I just used that for my IW2016 Journals as well.  Nothing fancy but here it is.......

Stampington Monthly Journal Prompts January and February

https://stampington.com/assets/docs/Monthly-Journal-Prompts.pdf

The Stampington website has been ever so kind to share this great pdf of monthly themes for art journaling prompts.  I chose to use an old ledger that has been sitting around the studio just waiting for the perfect opportunity to shine.  I  decorated the front with collage, and then started to work on my pages for January and February.

https://stampington.com/Keep-Taking-Chances-Project?filter_name=monthly
Here is the project post for January.  The prompt was "Celebrate the Power of New Beginnings".  I chose to do something similar on the first spread and then use the techniques learned on the second spread - I liked it so much :-)

Here is the post for February.  The prompt was "Work with Reds, Pinks, and Whites in a New or Unusual Way".  So, that is what I did.  The first spread uses all three colors and represents Valentine's Day for me.  The second spread I had fun with and left lots of area to journal in later.

Get Messy Art Journal Season Of Happy: Prompts 1-4 and Title Page and Cover

WHEW!  Moving is such a chore!  I have been trying to play catch up on my art journaling and other projects since the move.  I am settled in and ready to roll.

The first catch up is for my GET MESSY art journal.  You can find details here on how to join us... https://getmessyartjournal.com/  You, too, can become a "Get Messian" :-)

I am using an old book for my Get Messy Art Journal.  Here's the cover.
Just some collage and some letter and number stickers.
I wanted to make a title page to represent the "Season of Happy".  More collage and letters.
Just random things lying around that make me smile.

The title page and this spread were for prompt #1.  I actually had this old heart from another project last year that didn't work out the way I wanted so it got thrown into the "collage fodder" bin in my studio.
Sure enough, it was right for ME to use in this prompt.

Here is my spread for prompt #2.  I really don't like doodling so I used a floral 'coloring sheet' instead.
I took the quote from the prompt on happiness and this is what I journaled about.

For prompt #3, I used the quote, listened to the talk on happiness, and used the suggested techniques of randomness and graffiti.   This is about as close as I could get to graffiti LOL.
Here is my layout for prompt #4 (it looks a little more graffiti than my previous page LOL).  This prompt was based on the advice song "Wear Sunscreen"- I forget who it is by but you can google it or YouTube it :-)  I picked out all of the advice that I thought pertinent to my life.  Ironically, I have just turned 40 and the song referenced 'by the time you are 40', very often.  Anyway, the picture below is of the free advice and is on a tag, hidden inside the envelope on the page.

Today starts a new chapter in the life of MessyJessy

Me and My Art in the Gallery

My youngest, almost 13! year old son

My husband and my friend's little boy (Isn't he adorbs?)

I currently live in Conway, Arkansas- not far from where I grew up in a little town called Morrilton.  I have lived in several different states and several different countries.  I have taught English as a Second Language to college aged students, as well as Math, English, Science and Art to students in grades 12-4th.  I have taught summer school to preschoolers up to 2nd graders.

Several years ago I started a new chapter in my life when I became totally and permanently disabled and could not work for numerous reasons.  That was also about the time I got divorced.  So, I sold my house and moved closer to my mother who is deaf and grandmother who is blind.  They are getting older and I thought that we could all take care of each other :-)  My sister and brother-in-law just bought a house with mother-in-law quarters so here I am, just me and my beloved husband Trey and my sons.

This morning, I am moving 3/4 time up to Terra Studios to work on my art and healing my body from chronic pain.  I still live in Conway with my family but will be near Fayetteville most of the time.  They will come and stay with me and I will come and stay with them some, as it is harder for me to drive further than the grocery store.... on a good health day.

If you have never heard of Terra Studios, you may check out their website ...... www.terrastudios.org

There is a FREE art park that seems to go on for miles and is great for entertaining children and adults alike.  There is a gallery (I have pieces there :-) ), a cafe, classes, art lab, events, and so much more.  Did I mention that there are artist residency apartments/studios as well?  AWESOME! Right?

This is where my studio will be.  I encourage you to come for a visit in the North West Arkansas Ozark Mountains, as there are plenty of other things to do while you are there.  AND, you can stop in and visit me!
