Art Therapy Journal Pages

Here are three layouts that I have been working on in my art therapy journal.  I also do a lot of writing on the pages in between but I will just share the actual artwork that resulted from my musings and personal rantings.

Smashbook Art Therapy Journal

So I'm in my second year of Lifebook with Tamara Laporte ( http://www.willowing.org/life-book-2014/ ) and have learned so much from Tam and all of the other artists.  They have helped me grow as an artist and as a person.

This week's lesson was from Catt Zelda Geller (www.streetlightpeople.org) and MAN am I so excited!  I have been thinking about how to go about the whole Art Therapy Journal and this method was perfect!  I LOVE the way she puts together her smashbooks and makes them so personal.

I used two of my pieces of art for the front and back cover.  I glued them to a plain composition notebook and reinforced the spine with some washi tape.  Since the art was printed on my printer at home, I sprayed them with fixative and then, after that dried, went over it with matte medium.  I then glued two of the interior pages together at a time using a glue stick.  One thing I love is texture.  Catt showed us how to crumple up the glued pages and then use paint to add color to the outside of the book (view the pics below to see what I mean).

I then used the first pages to free write my intentions for this art therapy journal.  I dated it and signed it.  I am not posting pics of it for personal reasons :-).  Turning to the next page, I did a quick, playful art journal piece using a pic of myself and the "Brave Girls Club" (www.bravegirlsclub.com) patch that I had been saving for a special use.... I admire Melody Ross for her bravery when dealing with her personal issues.

Anyway, this is just the first art therapy journal entry for me.  There will be more and I am so happy that I have finally decided on what format to use.

Just FYI... Tamara Laporte has an awesome FREE mini-class called Art, Heart, and Healing..... check it out!
